Anthroposophy and Contemporary Culture
04/28 thru 05/16
Friday, 8:30AM-12:45PM /
16 Three-Week Course - Anthroposophy and Contemporary Culture Fabian Lochner (seminar and
music elective), Brigitte Bley-Swinston (painting elective), Christopher Kidman (eurythmy elective),
and Mikae Toma (crafts elective). The 20th century witnessed the birth of many new thought forms,
one of them being anthroposophy. In the seminar component of this course we will explore the
spiritual and cultural context of the twentieth century and discover the ways in which anthroposophy
has shaped important aspects of modern culture. We will get to know some of the leading figures in
various fields whose contributions were deeply inspired by Rudolf Steiner's work, and put them in
context with various currents of thought and innovation. For the artistic component, students will be
able to choose a concentration in one of the following disciplines: In Painting we will make use of
various materials and techniques. In Eurhythmy, teacher and students will work together creatively in
the preparation of a poem or other text to be expressed in movement. In Music, we will explore the
contemporary medium of free-tonal choral improvisation, creating playful and atmospheric sound-
scapes, as well as spontaneous musical processes that allow us to explore our own deeper
questions. In Crafts, we will be introduced to the ancient art of felting which has experienced an
extraordinary revival in modern times. How to register: online at www.sunbridge.edu, complete and
